Dance companies around the country working with disabled dancers to put up amazing performances.
Axis Dance Company inspires us all to constantly push ourselves beyond the perceived limitations.
Based out of California, they are known for their innovative performances featuring dancers with and without disabilities. Established in 1987, they have led the way for the contemporary dance form known as physically integrated dance. The awe-inspiring performances allow for able bodied and wheelchair bound dancers to interact together in beautifully choreographed routines.
Since the company's inception, they have won numerous awards and have been highly praised by critics around the globe. Featured on the television series So You Think You Can Dance!, the ensemble has been able to draw attention to the art of adaptive dancing and change the way we think about dance.
Another inspirational organization is Moving Miracles from Buffalo that offers a dance program for children and adults who have special needs. According to their website, among other challenges, many of their dancers have "Cerebral Palsy, Autism, Developmental Delays, and Down Syndrome."
Through their classes and outreach programs, they have created a nationally touring dance ensemble named "Without Words".
